The importance of these words

If you are preparing for a Cambridge Exam Test, you will know that having knowledge about prepositions in English can be really helpful for getting a good score. Remember that they do not always translate directly, and this can be particularly confusing.

When having conversations with your friends or in your normal routine, do you sometimes find yourself making the same mistakes? Let´s try this exercise

Responsible _____  Dependent ____   Focus ______  Insist ______ Capable ____

Now check the answers:

Consist of   Specialize in   Satisfied with  Related to

Responsible for   Dependent on   Focus on    Insist on     Capable of

How did you do? Now, let´s try the next one. Memorize the prepositions in English and then complete the paragraphs below:

An English course consists ___ studying many different things, but it is important not to be too dependent____ just wanting to learn grammar and vocabulary. A good teacher will also specialize ___ other skills like reading, writing and listening, while it is also important to focus ___ how you speak.

Now check the answers below. Answer key:

An English course consists of studying many different things, but it is important not to be too dependent on just wanting to learn grammar and vocabulary. A good teacher will also specialize in other skills like reading, writing and listening, while it is also important to focus on how you speak.

An English teacher is responsible for  creating a clear study plan so a student should insist on receiving an organized course related to clear important points to learn. If you are confused and not satisfied with the lessons, or do not feel capable of practising everything that is taught, communicate this as soon as possible.

If you find it really hard to study prepositions, it might be easier for you to learn them in the context of sentences. Use the prepositions you have learnt in different sentences to help you remember. Let´s give you an example.

For example, English food consists of fish and chips, and Sunday roast.

In this case, connecting this preposition with English food may help you remember it more easily. Now it is your turn. Don´t forget that practice makes perfect!
